The Feather Pillow

Welcome to Mystic in Blue Jeans.

This space was created as a quiet place to pause, breathe, and return to ourselves. Here I will share reflections from sessions, intuitive moments, and the quiet ways life, nature, and the body reveal their wisdom when we slow down enough to notice.

During a recent session with a client, I noticed how heavy everything felt. I could barely slide my hand beneath her body.

I paused for a moment and asked inwardly, what is going on here?

Then an image came to me -a feather pillow.

Suddenly it made sense. When a pillow is new, it is light and soft. The feathers move easily and the pillow feels buoyant and alive. Over time, however, it begins to collect things — oils from our skin, dust in the air, small particles we hardly notice. Little by little it becomes heavier. The feathers clump together and it no longer feels as light as it once did.

As the session continued, the heaviness gradually softened beneath my hands.

Our bodies can be much the same.

Over the years we accumulate stress, tension, emotional experiences, environmental influences, and the constant pace of modern life.

None of this means anything is wrong with us.

It simply means we are living.

It brought to mind the teachings of Mary Burmeister, who introduced Jin Shin Jyutsu to the West. She described the accumulation from daily living as "dirt, dust, and greasy grime."

Just like the pillow, the body occasionally needs to be aired out. Shaken gently. Given space to release or exhale what it has been holding so that the natural lightness within can return.

Energy practices like Reiki and Jin Shin Jyutsu are not about fixing something broken. They are simply ways of helping the body remember how to clear what has accumulated so life can flow again with greater ease.

Little by little, the dust settles.

The heaviness softens.

The feathers begin to move again.

Welcome to this space.
